Add 600 grams (1.5 pounds) of frozen mixed berries and 4 tablespoons of maple syrup into a medium-sized saucepan.
Place the saucepan over high heat and bring the mixture to a boil, stirring occasionally. This will take about 5 minutes, during which most of the fruit will defrost and soften.
Once boiling, reduce the heat to medium-low and allow the mixture to simmer for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally. Mash any larger fruit pieces like strawberries with the back of a spoon or a potato masher, being careful of the superheated sugar.
Remove the pot completely off the heat. Add 2 tablespoons of white chia seeds and stir carefully until they are completely mixed into the jam mixture.
Allow the jam to cool for a few minutes. Using a ladle, carefully transfer the jam mixture into sterilized 250ml (1 cup) capacity jars.
Put the sterilized lids on the jars. Let the sealed jars cool completely on the counter for a few hours. Once cooled, they can be stored in a kitchen cupboard for several months unopened. Once opened, keep the jam in the fridge for about a week.
• Use fresh berries when in season or frozen berries when out of season.
• Mash larger fruit pieces with the back of a spoon or a potato masher for a smoother consistency, but be careful as the mixture is superheated.
• Sterilize jam jars and lids before filling to ensure longer shelf life.
• Store unopened jars in a cool, dark cupboard for several months; once opened, refrigerate and consume within a week.
• Substitute maple syrup with honey.
• Use any combination of berries (strawberries, blackberries, currants, cherries, blueberries).
