Instant Oats Dosa

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1 cupInstant Oats
  • 1 cupWater
  • 1 (sliced)Medium-sized onion
  • 1Green chilli
  • 1 inchChopped ginger
  • 8-10Curry leaves
  • 1/2 tspRock salt
  • as needed for cookingOil

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. 1.Soak the Oats

Take 1 cup of instant oats in a bowl. Add 1/2 cup of water to the oats. Mix well and cover the bowl, letting it rest for 15 minutes to allow the oats to absorb the water.

  2. 2.Prepare the Batter

After 15 minutes, transfer the soaked oats, along with any leftover water, into a blender jar. Add 1 sliced medium-sized onion, 1 green chilli, 1 inch of chopped ginger, 8-10 curry leaves, and 1/2 tsp of rock salt to the blender. Cover the jar and grind all ingredients into a fine paste.

  3. 3.Adjust Batter Consistency

Transfer the ground oats paste to a bowl. The batter will be thick, so add another 1/2 cup of water gradually while stirring to achieve a smooth, pourable consistency similar to traditional dosa batter.

  4. 4.Prepare the Dosa

Heat a dosa tawa (griddle) on medium heat. Rub the tawa with a half-cut onion to season it. Stir the batter a couple of times before pouring. Pour about 1-2 ladlefuls of the batter onto the tawa and spread it evenly in a circular motion.

  5. 5.Cook the Dosa

Pour a little oil over the dosa. Let it cook on medium heat until the edges start to leave the pan and the underside turns brown and crispy. Flip the dosa over and cook the other side until it also turns crisp and brown. Once cooked, fold the dosa in half and transfer it to a plate.

  6. 6.Serve

Repeat the process for the remaining batter to prepare more dosas. Serve the instant oats dosa hot with homemade coconut chutney.
