Tools You'll Need
Place a saucepan over medium heat on your stovetop.
Pour 1/4 cup of vegetable oil into the heated saucepan.
Add 2-3 popping corn kernels into the oil. Wait for these test kernels to start sizzling, which indicates the oil is hot enough for popping.
Once the test kernels sizzle, add the remaining 1/2 cup of popping corn kernels to the pot.
Immediately place the lid on the saucepan. Allow the popcorn to begin popping. After a few minutes, when popping starts, gently shake the pot to ensure all kernels are coated in oil and pop evenly.
Continue popping until the sounds of popping slow down significantly (about between pops). Turn off the heat and let the remaining kernels finish popping with the residual heat.
Transfer the popped popcorn to a serving bowl, carefully discarding any unpopped kernels that remain at the bottom of the pot. Season with salt or other flavorings if desired, then serve immediately.
• Discard any unpopped kernels before serving.
• For best results, use a heavy-bottomed saucepan with a tight-fitting lid.
• Season with salt, sugar, cinnamon sugar, nutritional yeast, or your favorite popcorn seasonings.
