Stovetop Popcorn – Classic Snack

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1/4 cupVegetable oil
  • 1/2 cupPopping corn kernels

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. 1.Prepare the Pot

Place a saucepan over medium heat on your stovetop.

  2. 2.Add Oil

Pour 1/4 cup of vegetable oil into the heated saucepan.

  3. 3.Test the Oil Temperature

Add 2-3 popping corn kernels into the oil. Wait for these test kernels to start sizzling, which indicates the oil is hot enough for popping.

  4. 4.Add Remaining Kernels

Once the test kernels sizzle, add the remaining 1/2 cup of popping corn kernels to the pot.

  5. 5.Cover and Pop

Immediately place the lid on the saucepan. Allow the popcorn to begin popping. After a few minutes, when popping starts, gently shake the pot to ensure all kernels are coated in oil and pop evenly.

  6. 6.Finish Popping

Continue popping until the sounds of popping slow down significantly (about 2-3 seconds between pops). Turn off the heat and let the remaining kernels finish popping with the residual heat.

  7. 7.Serve

Transfer the popped popcorn to a serving bowl, carefully discarding any unpopped kernels that remain at the bottom of the pot. Season with salt or other flavorings if desired, then serve immediately.
