  3. Oil 1 spoon
  4. Salt to taste
  5. Lemon/Lime Juice from 1 lemon/lime

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Prepare Peanuts and Tempering Base

Place 1/2 cup of peanuts in a microwave-safe bowl. Add 2 spoons of oil to the peanuts. Microwave for until they are lightly roasted.

Step 2: Add Spices to Tempering

After microwaving the peanuts, add 1 spoon of cumin seeds, 1/2 spoon of mustard seeds, and 1 spoon of urad dal to the bowl. Mix well to combine the ingredients with the oil and peanuts.

Step 3: Continue Tempering

Add 1/2 spoon of turmeric to the mixture and mix thoroughly. Place the bowl back into the microwave and cook for to allow the spices to temper.

Step 4: Finish Tempering

Remove the bowl from the microwave. Add curry leaves and green chillies to the tempered peanuts and spices. Mix everything well and set aside.

Step 5: Prepare and Soak Rice

Take 1 cup of basmati rice in a microwave-safe dish. Soak the rice for , then wash it thoroughly.

Step 6: Cook Rice in Microwave (First Round)

Add 2 cups of water and 1 spoon of oil to the soaked and washed basmati rice. Mix well. Cover the dish with a microwave-safe lid and microwave for .

Step 7: Cook Rice in Microwave (Second Round)

After the first , let the rice rest in the microwave for a few minutes (as indicated by 'WAIT BEFORE YOU START'). Then, microwave for 5 more minutes. Once done, let it rest for inside the microwave (as indicated by 'WAIT FOR . ITS HOT').

Step 8: Combine Rice and Tempering

Remove the cooked rice from the microwave; there should be no water left. Fluff the rice gently with a spoon. Transfer the cooked rice into the bowl with the tempered peanuts and spices.

Step 9: Final Mixing and Seasoning

Mix the rice and tempering ingredients thoroughly until everything is well combined and the rice is evenly coated with the yellow turmeric. Add salt to taste and squeeze in the juice of one lemon or lime. Mix again and garnish with lemon wedges if desired.
