For Onion Topping

  • 2 mediumFinely chopped onion
  • 2Finely chopped green chili
  • 1 inchFinely chopped ginger
  • 1 sprigFinely chopped curry leaves
  • 2 sprigsFinely chopped coriander
  • to tasteSalt

For Uttappam

  • 4 ladlesDosa batter
  • for drizzlingOil

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. 1.Prepare the Onion Topping

    Add finely chopped onion, finely chopped green chili, finely chopped ginger, finely chopped curry leaves, and finely chopped coriander to a bowl. Add salt to taste and mix all the ingredients well until combined.

  2. 2.Cook the Uttappam - First Side

    Heat a dosa pan or non-stick griddle. Pour 2 ladles of dosa batter onto the hot pan and spread it gently to form a thick pancake. Immediately, add a generous amount of the prepared onion topping onto the dosa batter. Gently press the topping into the batter using a spatula to ensure it sticks. Drizzle oil around the edges of the uttappam. Cover the pan with a lid and cook for 1 minute until the base is golden brown and the topping is slightly cooked.

  3. 3.Cook the Uttappam - Second Side

    Remove the lid and carefully flip the uttappam to cook the other side. Cover again and cook for another 1 minute until the topping is cooked and the uttappam is golden brown on both sides.

  4. 4.Serve

    Once cooked, remove the Onion Uttappam from the pan and serve hot with coconut chutney or any chutney of your choice.
