In a measuring cup, combine 300 ml of warm milk, 2 teaspoons of sugar, and 1 teaspoon of active dry yeast. Mix well with a spoon and let it stand for 5 minutes until a foamy top forms, indicating the yeast is active.
In a wide bowl, add 3 cups of flour and 1 teaspoon of salt. Mix these dry ingredients thoroughly.
Pour the activated yeast mixture into the flour mixture. Begin kneading the dough. Once it starts to come together, add 3 teaspoons of butter. Continue to knead the dough vigorously for 10-12 minutes until it becomes smooth and soft.
Grease the bowl with a little oil to prevent sticking. Place the kneaded dough ball into the greased bowl, cover it with a cloth, and let it rest for 1 hour (or up to 2 hours if preferred) in a warm place until it doubles in size.
After the first proofing, gently punch down the risen dough to release the air. Knead the dough again for 1 minute.
Divide the dough into 9 equal-sized portions. Roll each portion into a smooth, crack-free ball. Ensure all balls are uniform in size for even baking.
Grease a baking pan with melted butter or oil. Place the dough balls in the pan, maintaining approximately 1 inch of distance between each ball. Cover the pan and let the dough balls rise for another 30 minutes until they have doubled in size.
Once the dough balls have risen, gently brush their tops with 2-3 spoons of milk using a pastry brush. This will help achieve a golden-brown crust.
Preheat your oven to 180°C (360°F). Place the baking pan in the preheated oven and bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the buns turn a beautiful golden-brown color.
Once baked, remove the buns from the oven. Immediately brush the tops of the hot buns with butter. This step helps keep them soft and adds a rich aroma. Let the buns cool down completely before serving.
• Ensure the milk is warm, not hot or cold, for optimal yeast activation.
• Knead the dough thoroughly for 10-12 minutes to achieve a soft and smooth texture.
• Brush the baked buns with butter immediately after removing from the oven to keep them soft and add flavor.
