Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Sauté Vegetables

Heat 1 Tsp of oil in a pan. Add 1 small sliced onion and stir fry for until it begins to soften. Then add 1 small sliced capsicum and 2 Tbsp of grated carrot. Continue to stir fry until all vegetables are softened. Season with a pinch of salt and a pinch of black pepper powder, then stir well. Remove from heat and set aside.

Step 2: Prepare Semolina Batter

In a bowl, add 1/2 cup of semolina (rava/sooji) and 1 cup of lukewarm water. Mix well until combined. Cover the bowl and let the semolina rest for to soften.

Step 3: Prepare Bread Buns

Take 2 round buns. Carefully cut each bun lengthwise into four long pieces, as shown in the video. Set the cut bun pieces aside.

Step 4: Combine Batter Ingredients

After , uncover the semolina batter and mix it again. It should have a flowing consistency. Add chopped fresh coriander leaves, 1 small chopped tomato, 1 Tsp cumin seeds, 1 Tbsp red chili flakes (to taste), 1 Tsp coriander powder, a pinch of carom seeds, a pinch of turmeric powder, red chili powder (to taste), and salt (to taste). Mix all ingredients thoroughly. Add a little water if needed to achieve a thick, flowing batter consistency.

Step 5: Coat and Pan-Fry

Dip each bun piece into the prepared semolina and vegetable batter, ensuring it is well coated on all sides. Heat 2 Tbsp of oil in a pan over medium-low flame. Place the coated bun pieces in the pan. Cook for on one side until golden brown, then flip and cook the other side. Continue cooking on medium-low flame, flipping occasionally, until both sides are golden brown and crispy.

Step 6: Serve

Once the semolina bread are golden brown and crispy, remove them from the pan. Serve hot with your favorite sauce or chutney.

Pro Tips

• Adjust spices to your taste for a milder or spicier flavor.

• Ensure the semolina batter has a flowing consistency for even coating of the bread.

• Cook on medium-low flame to ensure the bread toasts evenly and becomes crispy without burning.

Variations

• Add other finely chopped vegetables like corn, peas, or spinach to the batter for added nutrition and flavor.

• Experiment with different types of bread, such as sandwich bread or baguette slices.

• Serve with a variety of sauces like green chutney, tomato ketchup, or a sweet chili sauce.
