Onion Fritters (Pakoda) – Indian Style

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 2Big Onion
  • 2Green Chilli
  • 1/2 TspnCumin
  • As Per TasteSalt
  • 1 TspnChilli Powder
  • 2 TbspCoriander Leaves
  • 2 TspnMustard Oil
  • 1/2 CupRice Flour
  • 2 TbspWater

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. 1.Prepare the Onion Mixture

Add the thinly sliced big onions, chopped green chillies, cumin, salt, chilli powder, chopped coriander leaves, and mustard oil to a large mixing bowl. Mix all ingredients thoroughly by hand for about 1 minute, pressing gently to help the onions release their moisture.

  2. 2.Add Rice Flour and Mix

Add 1/2 cup of rice flour to the onion mixture. Continue mixing by hand for about 1 minute, ensuring the flour is evenly distributed and coats the onions.

  3. 3.Adjust Consistency with Water

Pour in 2 tablespoons of water. Mix again for about 1 minute until a thick, cohesive batter forms that can be easily shaped into fritters.

  4. 4.Shape the Fritters

Take small portions of the mixture and gently flatten them between your palms to form round, disc-shaped fritters.

  5. 5.Fry the Fritters

Heat oil in a pan over medium heat. Once the oil is medium-heated, carefully place the shaped fritters into the hot oil. Fry in batches, ensuring not to overcrowd the pan. Cook for 2-3 minutes on each side until they turn golden brown and crispy.

  6. 6.Remove and Drain

Once the fritters are golden brown and cooked through, remove them from the oil using a slotted spoon. Place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain any excess oil.

  7. 7.Serve

Serve the hot and crispy onion fritters immediately with your favorite green chutney and tomato ketchup.
