Recipe Summary

All Ingredients - Main Ingredients

  1. Chicken 300 g
  2. Ginger Garlic Paste to marinate
  3. Salt to marinate
  4. Turmeric Powder 1/4 tsp
  5. Oil 2 tbsp
  6. Garlic (crushed) 1 pot (approx. 5-6 cloves)
  7. Onion (fine chopped) 1 bowl
  8. Green Chillies (fine chopped) 5-6
  9. Curry Leaves a few
  10. Tomato (fine chopped) 1 bowl
  11. Coriander Powder 1 tsp
  12. Garam Masala 1 tsp
  13. Jeera Powder 1/2 tsp
  14. Pepper Powder 1/2 tsp
  15. Chilli Powder 2 tsp
  16. Coriander Leaves (chopped) for garnish

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Marinate the Chicken

Take 300g of chicken pieces. Add ginger garlic paste, a pinch of turmeric powder, and salt. Marinate for 20 minutes.

Step 2: Sauté Garlic

Heat 2 tablespoons of oil in a tawa (griddle). Add the crushed garlic and fry until it turns light brown.

Step 3: Sauté Onions, Green Chillies, and Curry Leaves

Add the finely chopped onions to the tawa. Immediately add the finely chopped green chillies and curry leaves. Fry everything together until the onions turn light brown.

Step 4: Add Salt and Tomatoes

Add salt to taste to the sautéed mixture. Then, add the finely chopped tomatoes and fry until they are slightly cooked and softened.

Step 5: Add Dry Spices and Cook Masala

Add coriander powder, garam masala, jeera powder, pepper powder, and chili powder to the mixture. Mix all the spices thoroughly. Add a splash of water if needed to prevent burning and continue frying until the oil separates from the masala, indicating it's well cooked.

Step 6: Add Chicken and Cook

Add the marinated chicken pieces to the cooked masala on the tawa. Mix everything well, ensuring the chicken is evenly coated with the spices. Cover the tawa with a lid and let it cook for 2 minutes, allowing the chicken to cook through and absorb the flavors.

Step 7: Finish and Garnish

Remove the lid. The chicken should be well cooked and the oil will have separated, indicating it's ready. Garnish with fresh chopped coriander leaves and mix gently.

Step 8: Serve Spicy Tawa Chicken

Transfer the spicy tawa chicken to a serving plate. It's now ready to be enjoyed as a delicious and quick meal.

Pro Tips

Adjust the amount of green chilies and chili powder to your preferred spice level.

Marinating the chicken for at least 20 minutes helps it absorb flavors and cook more tenderly.

Recipe Variations

You can use larger or smaller chicken pieces depending on your preference.

For a smoky flavor, you can finish the chicken with a charcoal smoke.
