Moong Dal Fry Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cupMoong dal
  • 1 tbspGroundnut Oil
  • 1 tspCumin Seeds
  • 1/4 tspAsafoetida
  • 1 (finely chopped)Onion
  • 1 tbsp (chopped)Garlic
  • 1 tsp (chopped)Ginger
  • 2 (chopped)Tomatoes
  • 1+1/2 cupsWater
  • 1/2 tspTurmeric powder
  • 1 tspGaram masala
  • 1 tspRed chilli powder
  • to tasteSalt
  • for garnishCoriander leaves

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. 1.Prepare Moong Dal

    Take 1/2 cup of moong dal and clean it thoroughly with water.

  2. 2.Heat Oil and Spices

    Heat a pressure cooker and add 1 tbsp of groundnut oil. Once hot, add 1 tsp of cumin seeds and let them crackle. Then, add 1/4 tsp of asafoetida.

  3. 3.Sauté Aromatics

    Add 1 finely chopped onion to the cooker and sauté until it becomes translucent. Next, add 1 tbsp of chopped garlic and 1 tsp of chopped ginger, and sauté for a minute until fragrant.

  4. 4.Add Tomatoes

    Add 2 chopped tomatoes to the cooker and sauté until they become mushy.

  5. 5.Combine Dal and Water

    Add the cleaned moong dal to the sautéed mixture. Pour in 1+1/2 cups of water.

  6. 6.Add Spices and Seasoning

    Add 1/2 tsp of turmeric powder, 1 tsp of garam masala, 1 tsp of red chilli powder, and salt to taste.

  7. 7.Mix and Pressure Cook

    Mix all the ingredients well. Close the pressure cooker lid and cook for 2-3 whistles.

  8. 8.Finish and Serve

    Once the cooker cools down completely, open the lid. Add fresh coriander leaves and mix well. Serve the Moong Dal Fry warm with rice.
