Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Slice the Luncheon Meat

Carefully remove the Purefoods Luncheon Meat from the can and slice it into 4 rectangular pieces.

Step 2: Bread the Luncheon Meat

Coat each luncheon meat piece evenly with 1/4 cup of flour, ensuring all sides are covered. Then, dip each floured piece into 1 beaten egg, allowing excess to drip off. Finally, coat thoroughly with 1/4 cup of panko breadcrumbs, pressing gently to adhere.

Step 3: Deep Fry until Golden Brown

Heat oil in a pan to a suitable temperature for deep frying. Carefully place the breaded luncheon meat pieces into the hot oil and deep fry until they turn golden brown and crispy on all sides. This should take approximately per side.

Step 4: Slice the Fried Luncheon Meat

Once fried, remove the luncheon meat pieces from the oil and place them on a cutting board. Slice each rectangular piece into 3 smaller strips.

Step 5: Prepare the Katsudon Sauce Base

In a separate pan, combine 1 cup of Dashi Stock (or Chicken Stock), 2 tbsp of Soy Sauce, 2 tbsp of Mirin, 1 tsp of White Sugar, and 1 medium thinly sliced White Onion. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer over medium heat, allowing the onions to soften slightly.

Step 6: Add Luncheon Meat to Sauce

Carefully arrange the sliced, fried Purefoods Luncheon Meat strips into the simmering sauce with the softened onions.

Step 7: Add Eggs and Garnish

Evenly pour 2 beaten medium eggs over the meat and onions in the pan. Immediately garnish with fresh leeks.

Step 8: Cook until Egg is Set

Cover the pan with a lid and continue to cook for about , or until the egg is set to your desired doneness (soft-set or fully cooked).

Step 9: Serve Immediately

Carefully transfer the Luncheon Meat Katsudon mixture from the pan and serve it immediately over a bowl of freshly steamed white rice.
