Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow each step to make the recipe successfully.

  1. Prepare Paneer Strips

First, take a block of paneer and cut it into long, finger-like strips using a knife.

  2. Marinate Paneer

Place the paneer strips on a plate. Sprinkle 1/2 teaspoon of turmeric powder, 1/2 teaspoon of red chili powder, 1 teaspoon of chaat masala, 1 teaspoon of crushed kasuri methi, and 1/2 teaspoon of salt over the paneer. Mix thoroughly by hand, ensuring each piece is evenly coated with the spices. Set aside.

  3. Prepare Cornflake Coating

In a separate bowl, take 1 cup of cornflakes and crush them by hand. Ensure they are coarsely crushed, not finely powdered, to achieve a good crunchy texture.

  4. Prepare Gram Flour Batter

In another plate, add 1/2 cup of gram flour, 1/4 teaspoon of salt, 1/4 teaspoon of turmeric powder, and 1/4 teaspoon of carom seeds. Mix the dry ingredients well. Gradually add water, mixing continuously by hand, until a smooth, medium-consistency batter is formed. The batter should not be too thick or too thin.

  5. Coat Paneer Bites

Take each paneer strip, dip it completely into the gram flour batter, ensuring it's fully coated. Then, immediately transfer the batter-coated paneer to the crushed cornflakes and coat it thoroughly on all sides. Repeat for all paneer strips.

  6. Deep Fry Paneer Bites

Heat cooking oil in a pan for deep frying. Once the oil is hot, carefully place the cornflake-coated paneer strips into the oil. Fry on medium heat, turning occasionally with a slotted spoon, until they turn golden brown and become crispy on all sides. This should take approximately per batch.

  7. Serve

Remove the fried crunchy paneer bites from the oil using a slotted spoon, allowing excess oil to drain. Place them on a serving plate. Serve hot with tomato sauce or mint chutney.
