Bread Kheer - My Style

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1.5 litersMilk
  • 4Bread slices
  • 0.5 cupSugar
  • 1/4 cupAlmonds (sliced)
  • 0.5 tspCardamom powder
  • 1 tbspGhee

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. 1.Prepare the Pot

Heat 1 tablespoon of ghee in a large pot over medium heat.

  2. 2.Fry Almonds

Add the sliced almonds to the hot ghee and fry until they turn light golden brown. Remove the fried almonds and set aside for garnish.

  3. 3.Add Cardamom Powder

To the remaining ghee in the pot, add the cardamom powder and fry for a few seconds until fragrant.

  4. 4.Boil Milk

Pour 1.5 liters of milk into the pot. Bring the milk to a boil and then reduce heat to medium. Let it simmer for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until its color slightly changes and it reduces a bit.

  5. 5.Prepare Bread Powder

While the milk is simmering, remove the crusts from the 4 bread slices and tear the bread into small pieces. Place the bread pieces in a mixer grinder and blend them into a fine powder.

  6. 6.Add Sugar

Add 0.5 cup of sugar to the simmering milk. Stir well until the sugar dissolves completely. Continue to cook for another 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  7. 7.Thicken with Bread Powder

Gradually add the prepared bread powder to the milk, stirring continuously to prevent any lumps from forming. Keep stirring and cook for another 5 minutes until the kheer thickens to your desired consistency.

  8. 8.Garnish and Serve

Once the kheer has thickened, turn off the heat. Garnish with the fried almonds. Serve the bread kheer warm or chilled.
