  • 1 tspCumin seeds
  • 2 medium, cubedBoiled potatoes
  • 2-3, slicedGreen chili
  • 3 tbspChopped coriander
  • to tasteSalt
  • 3 cupsWater
  • 1.5 cupsBarnyard Millet
  • 3 tbspCrushed peanuts
  • 1 tsp per servingGhee

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. 1.Prepare the base

    Pour oil into a pressure cooker. Once hot, add cumin seeds and let them splutter. Then add boiled and cubed potatoes, sliced green chilies, and chopped coriander. Mix all ingredients well.

  2. 2.Add water and seasoning

    Add salt to taste, then pour in 3 cups of water. Bring the mixture to a boil.

  3. 3.Wash and add millet

    Wash 1.5 cups of barnyard millet 1-2 times until clean. Once the water in the cooker is boiling, add the washed barnyard millet to it.

  4. 4.Cook the khichadi

    Add more chopped coriander, then cover the cooker and allow it to cook properly for 10 minutes.

  5. 5.Add peanuts and finish cooking

    After 10 minutes, uncover the cooker. Add crushed peanuts, mix everything well, and cover again for another 2 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.

  6. 6.Serve

    Uncover the khichadi. It is now ready to serve. Transfer to a bowl, add a spoonful of ghee, and garnish with fresh coriander.
