Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. 1.Prepare the Dough

In a mixing bowl, add 3 cups of wheat flour. Add 1.5 cups of water, salt as needed, 1 tablespoon of curd, and 1 teaspoon of oil. Mix well until the dough comes together.

  2. 2.Knead the Dough

Knead the dough until it forms a cohesive ball. Add a little more water if needed to achieve a soft consistency.

  3. 3.Rest the Dough

Cover the bowl with a lid and let the dough rest for 30 minutes.

  4. 4.Re-knead the Dough

After 30 minutes, open the lid. Apply a little oil to your hands and sprinkle some dry flour on the dough. Knead the dough gently for about 2 minutes until it's very soft.

  5. 5.Form Dough Balls

Take small portions of the dough and roll them into smooth, medium-sized balls.

  6. 6.Roll the Chapatis (Simple Round Method)

Sprinkle dry flour on a rolling board. Take one dough ball, flatten it slightly, sprinkle more dry flour, and roll it into a thin, round chapati. Dust off excess flour.

  7. 7.Cook Chapati (with Oil)

Heat a tawa (griddle) on high flame. Place the rolled chapati on the hot tawa. Once one side is slightly cooked (light bubbles appear), flip it. Drizzle oil on the cooked side.

  8. 8.Cook Chapati (with Oil, continued)

Flip again and drizzle oil on the other side. Press gently with a spatula to ensure even cooking and puffing. Cook until both sides have golden brown spots and the chapati is fully cooked.

  9. 9.Cook Chapati (without Oil)

Place another rolled chapati on the hot tawa. Once bubbles appear, flip it. Cook both sides until fully done and puffed, pressing gently with a spatula, without applying any oil.

  10. 10.Roll Chapati (Folded Method)

Take a dough ball and roll it into a small circle. Drizzle a little oil on it and spread it evenly. Fold the circle in half, then fold it again to form a triangle. Sprinkle dry flour and roll the folded dough into a thin triangle or round shape. Dust off excess flour.

  11. 11.Cook Chapati (Folded Method with Oil)

Place the rolled, folded chapati on a hot tawa on high flame. Once one side is slightly cooked, flip it. Drizzle oil on the cooked side.

  12. 12.Cook Chapati (Folded Method with Oil, continued)

Flip again and drizzle oil on the other side. Press gently with a spatula to ensure even cooking and puffing. Cook until both sides have golden brown spots and the chapati is fully cooked.
