Simple Dahi Raita – Pakistani Style

Ingredients

For Raita

  • 3 (or to taste)Green Chillies
  • 3/4 teaspoonsZeera (Cumin Seeds)
  • 1/2 teaspoons (or to taste)Black Pepper
  • to tasteSalt
  • 550 gramsYogurt (Greek style, thick)
  • 1/2 cupsWater

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. 1.Prepare the Spice Mixture

    Place 3 green chillies, 3/4 teaspoons of zeera (cumin seeds), 1/2 teaspoons of black pepper, and salt to taste into a mortar. Grind them thoroughly using a pestle until a coarse paste is formed. This can also be done in a small food processor.

  2. 2.Combine with Yogurt

    Add the freshly ground spice mixture to 550 grams of thick yogurt (approximately 2 cups).

  3. 3.Adjust Consistency

    Pour 1/2 cup of water into the yogurt mixture. Whisk everything together thoroughly until the raita reaches your desired smooth and runny consistency. You can add more or less water depending on your preference.

  4. 4.Serve

    The simple dahi raita is now ready to be served. It pairs wonderfully with various rice dishes, such as chicken pulao, as well as dry vegetable curries or parathas.
