Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Measure and Wash Rice

Measure 1.5 cups of rice and place it in a container. Add water and wash the rice once thoroughly, gently rubbing with your hands to remove excess starch. Drain the water.

Step 2: Cook Rice

Add the washed rice to a pot with sufficient boiling water. Cover the pot with a lid and cook until the rice is tender and most of the water has been absorbed, which takes approximately . Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.

Step 3: Add Milk

Once the rice is cooked and tender, pour 750ml of milk into the pot. Stir well to combine the milk with the cooked rice.

Step 4: Add Sugar

Add 250gm of sugar to the rice and milk mixture. Stir continuously until the sugar dissolves completely into the payasam.

Step 5: Add Saffron

Sprinkle saffron (Kesar) strands over the payasam for flavor and color. Stir gently to incorporate.

Step 6: Simmer and Serve

Continue to simmer the Paal Payasam on low heat, stirring occasionally, for another until it thickens to your desired creamy consistency. Once ready, serve warm or chilled.
