  • 20Garlic cloves
  • 7Dried Red Chilies
  • A handfulCurry Leaves
  • 1/2 tspTurmeric Powder
  • 3 tbspKashmiri Chili Powder
  • 1/2 tspBlack Pepper Powder
  • 1 tspFennel Seeds
  • To tasteSalt
  • 1 tbspLemon Juice or Vinegar
  • As neededWater

For Frying

  • 2 medium-sizedFish (e.g., Tilapia, Pearl Spot)
  • As needed for fryingCoconut Oil

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. 1.Prepare the Masala Paste

Add shallots, unpeeled garlic cloves, curry leaves, dried red chilies, turmeric powder, Kashmiri chili powder, black pepper powder, fennel seeds, salt, lemon juice or vinegar, and a little water to a blender. Blend all ingredients into a smooth, thick paste.

  2. 2.Marinate the Fish

Clean and score the fish deeply on both sides. Generously apply the prepared masala paste over the fish, ensuring it gets into all the scores for maximum flavor. Let it marinate for at least 30 minutes, or longer for better taste.

  3. 3.Heat the Oil

Pour a sufficient amount of coconut oil into a frying pan and heat it over a medium flame until it's hot but not smoking.

  4. 4.Fry the Fish

Carefully place the marinated fish into the hot oil. Fry for approximately 8-10 minutes on each side, or until the fish is golden brown and cooked through. Flip the fish gently to ensure even cooking.

  5. 5.Enhance Flavor (Optional)

If desired, spread any remaining masala paste on top of the frying fish during the last few minutes of cooking. Continue to fry for another 1-2 minutes to allow the fresh masala to cook and adhere to the fish.

  6. 6.Serve Hot

Once the fish is perfectly fried and crispy, remove it from the pan and serve hot with rice or your preferred side dishes.
