Ingredients

For Marinade

  • 500 gChicken breast
  • 1/2 tspSalt
  • 1/2 tspBlack pepper
  • 1/2 tspGarlic powder
  • 1/2 tspPaprika
  • 1/2 tspMixed herbs
  • 1 tbspVinegar
  • 1/4 cupMilk

For Coating

  • 1 cupPlain flour
  • 1/2 tspSalt
  • 1/2 tspBlack pepper
  • 1/2 tspGarlic powder
  • 1/2 tspPaprika
  • 1/2 tspMixed herbs
  • as neededCold water
  • 3-4 cupsCooking oil

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. 1.Prepare the Chicken

Cut the chicken breast into bite-sized pieces, approximately 1-inch cubes.

  2. 2.Marinate the Chicken

Place the cut chicken pieces into a bowl. Add salt, black pepper, garlic powder, paprika, mixed herbs, vinegar, and milk. Mix well until all chicken pieces are evenly coated. Cover the bowl with cling film and set aside to marinate for at least 30 minutes.

  3. 3.Prepare the Flour Mix

In a separate shallow dish, combine plain flour with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, paprika, and mixed herbs. Mix thoroughly to ensure all spices are evenly distributed.

  4. 4.First Coating

Take a few marinated chicken pieces and dredge them in the seasoned flour mix, ensuring they are fully coated.

  5. 5.Water Dip

Quickly dip the flour-coated chicken pieces into a bowl of cold water. Do not soak, just a quick dip to moisten the flour.

  6. 6.Second Coating

Immediately transfer the wet chicken pieces back into the seasoned flour mix. Coat them thoroughly again, pressing gently to help the flour adhere. Shake off any excess flour to create a craggy, crispy texture.

  7. 7.Deep Fry

Heat cooking oil in a deep pan or pot to approximately 350-375°F (175-190°C). Carefully place the coated chicken pieces into the hot oil, ensuring not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for 5-7 minutes, or until the chicken is golden brown and crispy on the outside and cooked through on the inside. Remove with a slotted spoon and place on a wire rack or paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

  8. 8.Serve

Serve the crispy chicken popcorn hot with your favorite dipping sauce.
