Pour 1 liter of milk into a large non-stick pan. Add 1 cup of cornstarch (ararot) to the milk. Mix thoroughly with a or spatula until the cornstarch is completely dissolved and there are no lumps. Ensure this is done before placing the pan on heat.
Grease a flat plate or tray with 1 teaspoon of ghee or oil. Set it aside, as you will need to pour the mixture into it immediately after cooking.
Place the pan with the milk and cornstarch mixture on medium heat. Stir continuously and vigorously without stopping. The mixture will start to thicken within a few minutes. Continue stirring to prevent it from sticking to the bottom or forming lumps.
Once the mixture begins to thicken (around 1:39), add 1/2 teaspoon of cardamom powder. Continue stirring. When the mixture is visibly thicker and starts to resemble a pudding, add 1 cup of sugar (around 2:09). Stir constantly until the sugar completely dissolves and the mixture becomes very thick and glossy, pulling away from the sides of the pan.
To check if the mixture is ready, take a small spoonful and place it on the greased plate. Let it cool for a few seconds. If it holds its shape and can be easily picked up as a soft, firm ball, it is ready. If it's too runny, cook for a few more minutes, stirring continuously.
Immediately pour the hot, thickened mixture into the prepared greased plate. Gently tap the plate and spread the mixture evenly using the back of a spoon or spatula. Do this quickly as the mixture sets fast.
