Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow each step to make the recipe successfully.

  1. Prepare Tawa

Heat a tawa or griddle over medium-high heat. Lightly grease it with oil or ghee.

  2. Spread Dosa Batter

Pour one ladleful of prepared dosa batter onto the hot tawa. Quickly spread it in a circular motion from the center outwards to form a thin, even crepe.

  3. Add Potato Masala

Once the dosa starts to cook and the edges begin to crisp, place about 1/2 cup of prepared potato masala in the center of the dosa.

  4. Spread Masala

Using a spatula, gently spread the potato masala evenly over the dosa, leaving a small border around the edges.

  5. Add Toppings

Sprinkle the chopped red onions, grated cheese, and fresh cilantro over the potato masala.

  6. Add Butter

Place a dollop of butter on top of the cheese and other toppings.

  7. Cook Until Crispy

Allow the dosa to cook for until the cheese melts, the toppings are heated through, and the dosa base is golden brown and crispy.

  8. Fold Dosa

Using two spatulas, carefully fold the dosa in half.

  9. Serve

Transfer the cheesy butter masala dosa to a plate and serve immediately with chutney and sambar.
