Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Combine Dry Ingredients

In a microwave-safe mug, mix together the all-purpose flour, unsweetened cocoa powder, granulated sugar, baking powder, and a pinch of salt.

Step 2: Add Wet Ingredients

To the dry ingredients in the mug, add the milk, vegetable oil (or melted butter), and vanilla extract.

Step 3: Add Food Coloring (Optional)

If making a red velvet cake, add a few drops of red food coloring to the mixture. This step can be skipped for a chocolate mug cake.

Step 4: Mix Well

Stir all the ingredients in the mug until the batter is smooth and well combined.

Step 5: Add Gooey Center

Spoon 1 tablespoon of raspberry or strawberry jam into the center of the batter.

Step 6: Add Chocolate Chips

Drop a few white chocolate chips (or a small piece of chocolate) directly on top of the jam. They will sink during cooking.

Step 7: Microwave

Place the mug in the microwave and cook for 60 to 90 seconds. The cake should rise and appear set on top.

Step 8: Cool and Serve

Let the mug cake cool for one minute. Then, top with whipped cream and Valentine's Day sprinkles before serving.

Pro Tips

Store covered in the fridge for up to 1 day.

Freeze for longer storage.

Reheat gently in the microwave before serving.

Recipe Variations

Skip red food coloring for a chocolate mug cake.

Use raspberry or strawberry jam for the gooey center.

Use a small piece of chocolate instead of white chocolate chips.
