All Ingredients - Main Ingredients

  1. Basmati Rice 1 part
  2. Water 1 part + as needed
  3. Salt to taste

🍳Tools You'll Need

  • Pot
  • Strainer

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Wash and Add Rice to Pot

Wash the basmati rice thoroughly under running water until the water runs clear. Then, add the washed rice to a cooking pot.

Step 2: Add Water and Seasoning

Add the same quantity of water as rice to the pot. Season the water with salt to taste.

Step 3: Adjust Water Level

Measure the water level by placing your hand on top of the rice; the water should be approximately 1 inch above the rice. If not, add more water until the desired level is reached.

Step 4: Boil the Rice

Cover the pot with a lid and cook the rice on medium flame. Stir it occasionally to prevent sticking. Continue cooking until the bubbles become more rapid and the rice grains change from translucent to an opaque white color.

Step 5: Strain the Rice

Once the rice grains have turned opaque white, remove the pot from the heat. Carefully strain the rice using a fine-mesh sieve, discarding the starchy water.

Step 6: Steam the Rice

Transfer the strained rice back into the pot. Cover the pot with the lid and let it sit aside for about . The residual steam will finish cooking the rice to perfection, making it fluffy and separated.

Step 7: Serve

Fluff the rice with a fork and serve your restaurant-quality basmati rice with your favorite curry or main dish.

Pro Tips

• Steam will further cook the rice to perfection.
