A thrilling prawn dish cooked in a thick sauce with ginger, curry leaves, shallots and tomato.


Servings: 3 Preparation time:
  • Prawn, Shrimp Prawns 250g
  • Shallots, Raw, Small Onion Shallots 15,( chopped)
  • Ginger Root, Raw, Fresh Ginger Ginger (1 inch)1 piece,( chopped)
  • Garlic, Raw, Garlic flakes, Lahsun, grated garlic, Garlic pods Garlic flakes 5 (cloves, chopped)
  • Green Chillies, Chilies, Hot Chili, Green, Raw, Chilli, Chilly Green chilli 2 (chopped)
  • Tomatoes, Red, Ripe, Raw, Red Tomato Tomato 1, (small, chopped)
  • Curry Leaf, Murraya Koenigi, Karivepallai, Curry Leaves, dry curry leaves Curry leaves (2 spring)
  • Coriander Leaf Corriander, Cilantro Leaves, Green, Leaves, Parsley Leaves, Coriander Coriander leaves (2bunch)
  • Cinnamon, Ground, Cinamon, Dalchini, Cinnamon Powder, Cinnamon Sticks Cinnamon 1 (inch stick)

  • Turmeric, Ground,powder, Haldi, Nitu Didi turmeric powder Turmeric Powder 1tsp ( 1/2tsp + 1/2tsp)
  • Dhania Powder , Coriander Powder, Corriander Powder, NITU DIDIS CORIANDER POWDER, Coriander Pd coriander Powder 1tsp
  • Lemon Juice, Raw, Lime Juice, Lemon Juice Lemon Juice 1tsp
  • Coconut Oil, Coconut Oil
  • Salt, Common Salt, Rock Salt, Table Salt Salt

Instructions (Preparation Steps):

  • 1. Make a paste of ginger, garlic, green chilli, curry leaves and coriander leaves.
  • 2. Marinate the cleaned prawns in half of the above mentioned paste, chilli powder, turmeric powder, garam masala, salt and lime juice for 1hour.
  • 3. Now in a sauce pan add coconut oil. One by one add crushed cinnamon sticks, ardamom, cloves and then the remaining ginger+garlic paste(step 1).
  • 4. Now add the chopped shallots and saute till it becomes translucent. Add the chopped tomato and close the pan with a lid. (As i dont like tomatoes taste in prwns, i add 3/4th of a small tomato)
  • 5. When the tomatoes are cooked properly add the chilli powder, turmeric powder and coriander powder .
  • 6. Now add the marinated prawns along with half glass of water. close pan tightly with a lid.
  • 7. When the prawns are completely cooked open the lid and make a thick masala. Add salt if needed.
  • 8. Serve hot with Rice or Appam..

Cook's Tip:
Its much easier to grind small cardamom if you add some sugar to it while grinding.
Whole cinnamon sticks gives a spicy aroma to food. Whole sticks are used and later removed. Ground cinnamon are normally used in baking.
Mash about six garlic cloves into ½ cup butter, add chopped chives or parsley. Form into logs, wrap in plastic and freeze. Slice as needed to melt into meats, vegetables or use as a spread
