Instructions (Preparation Steps):

  • Clean and wash the bones
  • Wash and soak the dal for 1/2 hour
  • Cook the bones with the dal in a pressure cooker (with enough water)
  • Mix all other items with the cooked bones
  • Boil for sometime till every thing mixes well

Cook's Tip:
If you misfired with the seasoning (and we all do that sometime!) and your curry is saltier than you like, don't throw it out. All you need to do is peel and cut a large potato in half and add it to your curry. It will absorb the extra salt!

Grind coarsely one lot of washed green chillies with a squeeze of lime juice, fill mini plastic cube tray and freeze. Then store in a freezer bag and use one or two cubes as required.

Cook loads of dal in the pressure cooker, cool, and freeze in separate batches or containers. If you're short on time and want to do a quick dal tadka, just do the tadka, fry the onions or whatever else you use, and add the pre-cooked dal! (courtesy my mom).
