Easy, instant bread idli recipe with curd, rava using leftover bread slices.


Servings: 1 Preparation time:
  • 1 cup - 250 ml:
  • White Bread, Bread, bread slices Bread (slices ) 4 ( Milk bread or brown bread)
  • Semolina, Sooji, Suji, Rava (Roasted Semolina / Sooji ) Rava - 1 cup
  • Yogurt, Plain, Low Fat, Curd, yoghurt (Sour) Curd - 1 cup
  • Water Boiled Plain Raw Mineral, Hot, Warm Cold, Mix, sparkling, Carbonated Water - 1 cup ( varies from 3/4 to 1 cup)
  • Baking Soda, Powder, Cooking Soda, Sodium Bicarbonate, Soda Bi-carb Baking soda - 1/4 tsp
  • Salt, Common Salt, Rock Salt, Table Salt Salt - as needed

Instructions (Preparation Steps):

  • Take bread slices and tear into pieces.
  • Grind to fine powder.Collect in a bowl.
  • Dry roast rava for 3-4 minutes. Let it cool down.
  • Mix with powdered bread. Add curd, salt and mix well.
  • Add water gradually and make thick batter. Add baking soda at the end. Mix well and rest for 5 minutes.
  • Grease idli plate and pour batter till half of the mould. Steam for 10 minutes. Idli becomes big in size and spongy. Remove after 2 minutes.
  • Serve hot for best taste with coconut chutney or tomato chutney as side dish.

Cook's Tip:
To refresh stale bread, sprinkle it with water, wrap it in a foil and heat it in the oven on 200 ºC for about five to ten minutes.
Whenever curd is to be added to the masala, it should be beaten well and added gradually.
If you misfired with the seasoning (and we all do that sometime!) and your curry is saltier than you like, don't throw it out. All you need to do is peel and cut a large potato in half and add it to your curry. It will absorb the extra salt!
